The entire lineup of Ram trucks was overhauled in 2019, from the 1500s to the heavy duty trucks. But Ram isn’t resting on its laurels. They’re continuing to innovate and improve. We’ll explore what’s new this year and what might entice you to get your very own 2020 Ram 1500.
There’s more new than you’ve probably expect in the year after a major redesign. For one thing, there’s a new diesel engine in the form of the 3-liter EcoDiesel V6. The engine is lighter, breathes better, and is more efficient. What does that mean for you? A significant bump in horsepower and torque and an overall mightier truck. The output is now 260 horsepower and a whopping 480 pound-feet of torque. That’s best-in-class torque among diesel engines, which is wonderful news for diesel fans.
The 2020 Ram is seeing the return of the Night Edition. This black-trimmed appearance package is optional on Big Horn and Laramie trim levels and includes black grille and grille surround, specific badging and 20- or 22-inch wheels, exhaust tips, and dark bezels for head and tail lamps. And the Night Edition comes in more colors than black. There’s Bright or Ivory White, Flame Red, Billet Silver, Granite Crystal, and Diamond Black to choose from.
There’s also a brand new trim level that slots between the base Tradesman and the Ram 1500 Big Horn. The Ram 1500 HFE resembles a Tradesman but with increased efficiency and upgraded appearance. Upgrades include 20-inch chrome wheels with low-rolling resistance tires, side steps, tonneau cover, carpeted floor, and front bucket seats, instead of a 40/20/40-split bench. Fuel economy improves in the HFE over the Tradesman by about 1 mile per gallon.

Finally, the off-roading Rebel now comes with a standard Comfort package that includes power tailgate release, heated rear seats and 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat. Ram Rebels can also come with an optional driver-assistance technology package. Phew. That’s a lot of brand new stuff for a sophomore year.
