2023 Dodge Charger Preview

Since Dodge announced that both the Charger and the Challenger will eventually be replaced with new EVs, this question has been on everyone’s mind. While we expect the Charger to stick around for a few more model years — including the 2023 model year — the clock is ticking and the opportunity to get your hands on one of these high-powered sedans is limited. And rumor has it that this may be the final year to get your hands on the supercharged Hellcat V8 engine.

We expect the 2022 Charger engines to carry over to this model year. Depending on trim level, there are five main options:

• SXT (RWD): 3.6L V6 (292 horsepower, 260 lb-ft of torque)
• SXT (AWD), GT: 3.6L V6 (300 hp, 264 lb-ft)
• R/T: 5.7L V8 (370 hp, 395 lb-ft)
• Scat Pack: 6.4 V8, aka the 392 (485 hp, 475 lb-ft)
• SRT Hellcat: supercharged 6.2L V8 (717 hp, 650 lb-ft)
• SRT Hellcat Redeye: supercharged 6.2L V8 (797 hp, 707 lb-ft) (807 hp with Jailbreak package)

Note that the all-wheel drive SXT and the GT include a high-output version of the base engine, a 3.6-liter V6.

We expect the 2023 Charger lineup to look a lot like the one from last year. Should anything change, though, we’ll update this space. Meanwhile, there are (probably) five main trims to choose from, each with a little more power, performance gear, and interior luxury than the last.

SXT

The entry-level Charger gets things going with standard comfort and smartphone-friendly infotainment features.

This Charger adds to the aforementioned features with a little extra comfort and a lot more performance gear, including the coveted launch control system, which means a quicker start for you.

SRT Hellcat Widebody

The infamous Charger Hellcat brings the heat with its 717-horsepower supercharged V8 engine, but it also delivers a wide range of interior upgrades. It even throws in an adaptive suspension and upgraded high-performance brakes, taking performance to the max.

This model is also available with the Hellcat Redeye or Jailbreak packages, which add their own unique styling and more powerful versions of the supercharged V8 (see above).
